About the Lake ADAMHS Board:
The Alcohol, Drug Addiction, and Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) Board is responsible for planning, funding, and evaluating services for Lake County residents experiencing mental illness and/or substance use disorders. These services are delivered through a network of trusted providers.
 
Position Overview:
The Behavioral Health Navigation and Transportation Specialist is responsible for managing incoming calls to the Compass and Transportation Lines, scheduling rides, and connecting individuals and families to essential services. This is a full-time position that combines four days of office-based work with one day of remote work each week. Applicants must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the behavioral health or social service field. A Bachelor’s degree and case management experience are preferred.
 
Principle Activities:
The Behavioral Health Navigation and Transportation Specialist serves as the primary contact for individuals seeking transportation and for calls to the system-wide intake line. Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing incoming calls to the Compass Line and Transportation Line with professionalism and excellent customer service.
  • Building strong relationships with coworkers, board members, and network providers.
  • Communicating regularly with provider agencies to determine appointment availability and facilitate rapid service connections.
  • Maintaining an updated and accurate database of mental health and recovery service programs.
  • Providing callers with accurate information on treatment options, scheduling appointments as needed, and making referrals to community resources.
  • Conducting follow-up calls and maintaining precise records of all incoming calls.
  • Reviewing provider licensures and certifications to ensure compliance.
  • Auditing program invoices for accuracy and timeliness.
  • Verifying eligibility and coordinating transportation arrangements with callers.
  • Staying informed about ethical issues, insurance regulations, and referral protocols.
  • Protecting client confidentiality by adhering to HIPAA regulations.
  • Managing complex caller issues with strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Assisting with special projects assigned by the Director of Quality and Clinical Operations and supporting the operations of the Lake County ADAMHS Board.
 
Qualifications:
Specific Knowledge, Training, and Skills Required:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of behavioral health services available in Lake County.
  • Experience or training in customer service, social work, and/or call triage.
  • Strong understanding of human behavior, ethical issues, insurance regulations, and referral/application protocols in Lake County.
  • Knowledge of mental illness and addiction, including their impact on individuals, families, and caregivers.
  • Exceptional professionalism in handling calls, addressing caller needs, and resolving issues in a friendly, assertive manner.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience in public speaking, scheduling, and coordinating multiple activities.
