POSITION SUMMARY
The Communications Specialist position produces content for internal and external communications and manages the agency’s social media platforms to advance and support the mission of Laketran, as well as assist with promotions, event marketing, customer experience, advocacy, and media relations.
 
Essential Functions

  • Manages content creation for agency including graphic design, video production and photography
  • Designs agency print and digital materials (brochures, rack cards, bus schedules, maps, posters, ads, flyers, employee newsletter, email newsletter)
  • Produces and schedules social media content, social ad buys, and tracks monthly analytics
  • Manages website content
  • Assists with strategy, planning and implementation of ad campaigns, special events, and promotions
  • Manages Rider Alerts program that communicates service disruptions via SMS, email, social media and industry apps
  • Maintains posting and quality of GTFS (General Transit Specification Feed)
  • Trains employees on Laketran’s internal communications mobile app
  • Staff liaison to Laketran Passenger Advisory Committee, arranges quarterly meetings and manages meetings
  • Manages outreach, registration and fare distribution for Laketran’s high school partners (Cardinal GO, Blue Devils GO, and Raiders GO)
  • Assist with community engagement representing Laketran on community committees and boards
  • Gives public presentations about Laketran services
  • Researches trade and marketing trends relevant to current goals
  • Maintains vendor relationships responsible for ordering promotional items
  • Proofreads technical materials in print and digital formats
  • Assists with news releases, articles, ad copy, advocacy efforts, and media events

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • Requires a thorough knowledge of Laketran’s services and the Lake County community
  • Experience in graphic design, photography, and video production
  • Proficiency in the use of computer software including Adobe Creative Cloud, WordPress, Microsoft Office Suite, Constant Contact, Google Analytics, EZtexting (SMS marketing), and social media platforms
  • Functional/Technical skills – Google Maps/Places, EZfare app
  • Confident to speak publically to community groups including students, seniors, and professional groups
  • Effective writing and communications skills
  • Ability to deal courteously and diplomatically with general public
  • Organizational skills - strong time management, effective work processes
  • Prompt, regular, reliable attendance is required
  • Personal competencies - self-motivated, demonstrates strong work values, reliable, work independently, flexible, innovative, results-oriented, timely, creative
  • Ability to understand complex processes
  • Ability to make decisions, prioritize, solve problems and execute good judgment
 
Other Requirements
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license and clear driving record
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends for special events
  • Ability to sit, stand, and talk/listen at events up to 8 hours
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds to set-up displays, move marketing materials
  • Must be able to focus clearly at 10 inches or less for fine detail work and be able to identify and distinguish between shades of color
  • Excellent interpersonal and administrative skills
  • Immediately corrects or informs management of any potentially unsafe conditions. If the hazard cannot be immediately eliminated, secures and labels the hazard to protect people, buildings, equipment, and vehicles, as appropriate, and immediately notifies the appropriate manager
  • Immediately notifies a supervisor of accidents or injuries

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers. Hybrid work schedule is an option. The employee may be required to work some evening and weekend events when attendance is required.
 
Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected. 
 
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates requires at least two years’ experience in marketing/communications, content creation, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the duties of the job. Experience in public transit, government or non-profit sector is helpful.
 
Required Minimum Education and Experience
  • Degree in field of Graphic Arts, Communications, Marketing, or equivalent experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Proficiency in the use of computer software including Adobe Creative Cloud, WordPress, Microsoft Office Suite, video editing, and social media platforms
 COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Starting salary range: $50,218 to $70,791. Compensation is commensurate with a combination of education and experience.
